🌊 Italy’s Palmarola island is tiny but mighty. It’s a neighbor to my favorite Amalfi region island, Ponza, and dare I say it has even more beautiful waters? It’s more remote, so it definitely feels more exotic. Add it to your Italian boating itinerary to be dazzled! Have you heard of Palmarola? Check out Amalfi Boat III story highlights for much more!
📌 Ahhhh Amalfi! Blooming with bougainvillea flowers and vibrant with colorful buildings dotting the coast. This is the town the entire peninsula is named after, and for very good reason. It’s the largest city on the Amalfi coast and one of the most popular places to stay! We had an afternoon here, and our plan was to wander Amalfi and then take the bus up to Ravello for the iconic infinity terrace views! Instead we hopped the wrong bus 😜 and ended up in Pogerola! This little hilltop town is much less popular so we had it all to ourselves, and it was just lovely. We took Amalfi lemons and made lemonade! 🍋🌺 We never did make it up to Ravello (I have a good reason to return! Have you been?) but we certainly made the most of our time in Pogerola with a brilliant lunch at Gerry’s Pub (highly recommend!) and a little walk out to several lookout points. Amalfi city itself is VERY busy and we had our fill quickly, but you can definitely appreciate its iconic beauty in even one busy afternoon. Make sure to see the Duomo di Amalfi, the view from the marina (pictured), and the view from Torre dello Ziro! Also don’t miss Le Arcade near Atrani, too - it’s THE photo spot that always pops up when you google Amalfi! What are your Amalfi favorites?
🔹REAL TALK CAPRI: (Skip to the bottom if you just want the reccos!) We were REALLY looking forward to the island of Capri. Maybe too much? My niece is named Kapri, so there was plenty of hype about visiting her namesake island. It is certainly a beautiful place, but perhaps overrated. We found it more crowded, hot and touristy than the mainland towns with less desirable waters than neighboring islands. (My daughter got stung by a jellyfish - ouch!) Everything here is overpriced, including the Blue Grotto tour (some locals were joking that it’s run by the mafia). Finally, we couldn’t go up the chair lift as we had hoped as it wasn’t safe for our littlest kids to go up alone (it’s a single chair).
🌲 This is Acadia. So much to explore! The best time to visit is in the fall, when the busy summer tourist season is over and most hikes are open (some hikes like Precipice are closed to protect nesting birds in the spring). We Mainers are proud of our incredible National Park! Don’t forget to explore off the beaten path - these rocky cliffs are amazing! Have you been? Check out more Maine goodness @homebasebelgium 🦞
🇮🇹 Although we only visited for the day, Positano was our FAVORITE city on the Amalfi coast! 📌 Save this for all the most picturesque places (must see spots)!
Follow @homebasebelgium to learn more about our family adventure all around the Amalfi coast by boat! But first - we stayed at this incredible villa @b_and_b_villa_le_favole (Villa Le Favole) near Nocera Inferiore. It is located between Salerno and Pompeii on the edge of the Amalfi mountain range. We had a gorgeous view of Mt Vesuvius and the Scafati valley from the rooftop terrace, and also enjoyed a beautiful pool, relaxation area surrounded by a citrus grove, and spacious apartments in a lush oasis setting. The best part? The price! For 12 people in TWO modern apartments it was only €270 per night! Breakfast was available for extra, but delicious coffee delivered to your private patio in the morning was complimentary. The hosts were so lovely! We especially appreciated having a fabulous restaurant just a 5 minute walk away, and ended up eating there every night it was so good! Check out La Fucina if you stay at Villa Le Favole! I can’t say enough about this place! For more photos and info, see Italy story highlights.
